Rotunda hosts the cutest party in Dublin as hospital launches Tentacles for Tinies programmeĭr Aisling Smith told Dublin Live that the hospital began piloting the programme in June and said preliminary research showed that babies who were holding the octopus had lower heart rates, indicating that they were less stressed and felt more secure. The cuddly little stuffed toys are placed with the tots in their incubators, and their little tentacles are believed to make the babies feel safe as they resemble the umbilical cord that the fetus would hold while still in its mammy's womb. Tentacles for Tinies are hand crocheted octopuses that are made by the Rotunda Knitters volunteer group and given to premature babies.
